December Site of the Month: Grant Works

Collecting information at this time of the year is never easy, but our Grant Works Site was able to do it!  Kudos to the staff of 16 who are empoyed at that building!  For all your hard work, there will be donuts to enjoy with your morning coffee on Thursday.

Grant Works is the oldest site of the Children's Center. It occupies the first floor of Clement Presbyterian Church.  Its doors opened in 1978 for an after-school program that is still in operation today.

Programs have expanded to include preschool daycare and Illinois state sponsored Pre-K at-Risk.  Margaret Gasteier is the site director overseeing these programs.  The teaching staff includes Rosa Karina Rocha, Brenda Sandoval, Rosario Arias, Maria Velasquez, Linda Campos, Jeanella Regalado, and Jose Lagunas. Esmeralda Salto is a program assistant.

Kathie Kokenes serves as the Financial Director.  She also supervises Jesse Skipper and Frank Wiserman who take care of maintenance, delivery and repairs at all sites.  Maria Sanchez is Kathie's Administrative Assistant. Lisa Kherwish is the Family Development Specialist and Enrollment Coordinator.

In addition to the education programs, the Agency Nutrition Program is also located at that building. Copitzi Campos, the Cook Coordinator, and her staff of three:  Carmen Mares, Olga Aceves, and Isabel Vicente, cook and ship lunches to the daycare sites. (Lunch for 350 children everyday!  Wow!  That's a lot of chopping, peeling, baking, and on and on and on.)  Stop by and visit when you're in the neighborhood.  There is always a lot going on!
