The Teachers of the Toddler Room (Tracy Patton, Maria Sanchez & Belen Avalos) of The Children's Center of Cicero • Berwyn (CCCB) need your help!!!
They will be running/walking in the Humana Rock 'n' Roll Races July 16-17 and would like to use the opportunity to raise money to purchase new playground equipment that is developmentally appropriate for toddlers (age 15-36 months) at the Patricia Makris Child Development Center.
Childhood obesity has become a major health problem in this country and the obesity rate is high in Cicero. The youngest children of this community have few opportunities to play in a safe outdoor area. The nearest park is eight blocks away and staff must push strollers across major roads to get there. In addition, vandalism, cigarette butts and broken glass are frequent issues faced upon our arrival.
We seek your assistance to help create a safe place for our children to exercise and grow ON SITE by having equipment they can climb on, push, pull, chase and drive and a soft surface material to avoid accidents and injuries. On site equipment will also allow the children to play for extended time periods as it would eliminate the need for a 20-minute walk each way to and from the community park.
New playground equipment for our toddlers will allow us to create and expand new and different activities that will promote physical fitness, gross motor development and positive self-esteem in our children.
New equipment would also improve the types of activities needed to combat obesity among the children we serve.
They would like to have the ability to allow the children out to play without fear of being injured by damaged or vandalized equipment in the community, or having to cross major roads to get there.
