Houby Parade 2016

The Children Center of Cicero-Berwyn had the opportunity to participate in the 48th Annual Houby Day Parade.  Parents, children, and staff represented our agency as we featured our very own CCCB mushroom.  Children lead the way passing out candy and marching with our flag. This year, the parade was held on October 2, 2016, on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. This yearly tradition is a celebration of Berwyn and Cicero's Czech and Slovak early settlers and heritage. The "Houby", or mushroom, is a symbol of Czech-Slovakian harvest and has become the name of this annual event.

This event is now shared by the diverse and culture-rich people of Cicero and Berwyn.
It's a wonderful opportunity for these two communities to get together and celebrate down their shared street of Cermak Road.  As a former Berwyn resident, I remember looking forward to the friends, music and energy oozing from this little parade.  It was also a great way to welcome the cooler months to come.

We want to thank the parents, children, and staff that joined us in the parade.  We hope you had fun!
